34 years as an energy & sustainability educator
Wes Golomb taught energy and sustainability for 34 years in New Hampshire and chairs the Deerfield Energy Committee. He is the former NH Energy Conservation Coordinator, and his forthcoming book, The Power Problem: Energy, Empire, and the Case for a New Way Forward, is on track for publication in 2027.
In this talk, Wes traces the arc of his forthcoming book: why the barriers to a clean energy future are political, not technological. Drawing on 34 years in the classroom and 20 years leading his town's energy committee, he walks audiences through the physics that makes the case for renewable energy, the abundant and already-affordable technology that could meet it, and the century of political history that has kept fossil fuels dominant anyway. Audiences leave with a clear framework — who benefits, who pays — for evaluating any energy decision, and a concrete example of what change looks like when a community decides to stop waiting: how Deerfield secured a $330,000 federal solar grant and helped 63 households go solar in a single year.
Run time: 35–40 minutes as written; trims to 20 or expands to 45–50 with Q&A. Podium keynote with slide deck; adaptable to a fireside or panel format.
